MicroMountains Applications AG operates the application centre for microtechnology and microsystems technology in the German state of Baden-Württemberg, with access to a network of over 500 engineers and scientists from five renowned research and development institutes. The company’s core task is to help medium-sized businesses turn innovative research in microsystems technology into industrial applications. It serves as an active link between R&D and the companies who turn these innovations into real products.
In addition to a high level of technical competence we offer our customers tailored, professional project management. We also incorporate other services to facilitate successful product development as required.
Our work focuses on new processes and technologies in the field of microsystems technology or MST. All of these are based on miniaturisation in one form or another. Silicon chips are the example that springs to most people’s minds, but this technology might also include new coating, manufacturing or production processes, for example.
Most microsystems contain sensors, actuators and data processing units working closely together. When connected in the right way, these can be combined to create “intelligent” systems. Obviously, the system itself may be macroscopic. As a systems technology, MST embraces many different disciplines: an expert knowledge of materials science, technologies, processes, sensors, actuators, systems and signal processing is called for to exploit the various functions through complex interaction. The MicroMountains initiative
MicroMountains Applications AG is an independent company founded in 2006 as the result of the MicroMountains initiative, set up by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Schwarzwald-Baar-Heuberg and business association MicroMountains Network e. V. The association has over 40 members and its aims are to stimulate development of the technology infrastructure, promote an interest in technology among young people, and support young entrepreneurs. Since 2007 the application centre has initiated numerous project activities with the support of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
